Newbie from the Dallas Metroplex (DFW area)

Hi!

My name is Nicole Lalanne. I'm from the Dallas metroplex, specifically a suburb just north of Dallas called Richardson. I'm a full time AVID and Calculus teacher at Richardson High School. The only experience I have in real estate comes from the experience of purchasing my first home in Richardson with my husband, who is a software engineer at Texas Instruments.

My husband and I learned about FI about six months ago, and we're eager to use real estate as an vehicle to help us reach our FI goals. Both my husband and I are religious followers of the BiggerPockets and BiggerPockets Money podcasts, and I have been finally swayed to join the BiggerPockets Forums community.

In terms of specific goals within real estate, my husband and I are pretty open to exploring whatever types of real estate make most sense for us number-wise and also as a good fit for our skill sets. Over the past month, we've checked out available single family homes in areas that have good schools (can't change location), but haven't been able to compete with . This has caused me to become more and more curious about investing in multi-family homes. I recently purchased "The Complete Guide to Buying and Selling Apartment Buildings" by Steve Berges and am eager to learn more about that!

Anyway, I'm excited to join the community and look forward to learning from you all!

@Nicole Lalanne Welcome! I actually just stepped down as a math teacher and coach over at Coppell High School to pursue real estate full time. Are you and your husband wanting to move into another primary occupied residence and turn your current residence into a rental property? Are you opposed to house hacking a duplex? Do you have kids in the near future? You mentioned not changing locations - so are you wanting to stay in Richardson? Definitely a lot of questions to ask just because there are a lot of opportunities for you two if you're willing to be creative.
