@Shiloh LundahlI'm reasonable certain it is a real thing that happened at some point in time, but then again so is the church of the flying spaghetti monster; the world is a weird place. 

I don't know the rules in Chicago, but if the tenants moved out and it is empty I would contact local non-profits and churches and work with them to see if they can help people move in at a reduced rate and cover power bills for 3-5 months.  

@Tone Church read my own post and didn’t like the way it sounded—the death isn’t funny especially now.

We were very blessed to have our first 3 tenants who live downstairs be people from our church and people we know.

We were able to get a tenant on a relief rent assistance through a church fund as well. 

I know this is something @Brandon Turner espouses and tells the story of how just this tactic, at church no less, helped him snag a pretty good property (the 24 unit, I think).And thinking back, it's wild that Brandon was the one to promote this considering how legendarily introverted he describes himself as. 

Our very first confirmed booking was for a 25 person church group for 2 days at $330 a night (plus taxes and cleaning).

@Timothy Church maybe you have thought of this and simply didn't bring it up, but you also get to write off your interest expense on these against your income.
