there is no typical.. but in this instance going forward I would meet them and you hand them your check and they hand you the sign Lien Waiver/release. 

There is normally a partial release premium that requires you to pay additional proceeds towards the remaining properties in the loan.

The city does NOT have the ability to accept less than payment in full to release a lien.
