The good news is that it is still a popular destination and there are a lot of visitors annually.I have been  in the vacation rental industry for almost 20 years now and have been personally involved in hundred of thousands of reservations.

Flood insurance is destined to go up, because the gov has realized that it is insane to rebuild homes that flood on a regular basis.

Another destination of choice for investors in Austin area is Elgin.

Also another idea I have is Ketchikan is a huge tourist destination, our population doubles in the summer months, but I have an in with a tourist company that I could rent a multi family by room to increase my income, and the tourist company would deal with most of the drama that the tenants would have if the problem pokes its head up.

I live in the Lansing, MI area, so not a big tourist destination by any means, but I should be able to make some traction with both of these methods.  

There are also a lot of attractive destinations for investors as it offers relatively low home prices compared to other states in the US.Did you know that Ohio has a 1% rule this is actually a common benchmark for rental investments.

Douglas Lake is a top bass and crappie fishing destination so that is very cool.

But it seemed like a good tourist destination. 

This is not a far-fetched scenario as it happened in Maimi Beach, a popular tourism destination and promising short-term rental market.
