I think a lot of new investors look at the allure of STR and see the big revenue numbers and forget how much damage your house and your furniture and your furnishings will take with guest after guest after guest staying in your houseIf you let your house and the furniture and the furnishings fall into a state of decay, what originally started as a big moneymaker will instead become a constant source of guest complaints and bad reviews and headaches and sleepless nights (for you & your guests!)

But I will give my 2 cents as I have bought and built up 3 full time airbnb's out in my market, and learned a lot in the process.The furnishings and interior design of your space is extremely important, and that is because when people are shopping for a short term rental, they look at the photos first, and often if the cover photo isn't perfect, they won't even scroll through to entertain the rest of your photos and listing.With that being said, my approach with furnishings was always: -Modern -Color -AmenitiesThings wear out pretty fast in an airbnb, so I used IKEA for most of my furniture.

Consider all the expenses: taxes (including state lodging and sales tax), insurance, marketing, cost to furnish, city registration, consumables (coffee, TP, replacement linens or furniture, etc), utilities (including TV, internet), landscaping, and even your personal time (answering questions, maintenance calls, bookings, etc.)
