I'm not flipping or using hard money or even private money for that matter, but what I've gleaned over the years of listening to BiggerPockets is that private money comes through the building of relationships and to do that you must network within the industry. 

I'd also advise that you watch this BP Podcast where you might glean some nuggets of solid information which you might not have previously considered.

But, I’ll let you in on a little secret: Even the DIY landlords who claim they’ve built all of their success on their own had help.Smart investors tap into every resource they have to glean property investment knowledge.

So when a landlord (whom you want to glean information from) tells you how they're going to be painting their new property, etc. jump at the opportunity and ask if you can assist them in exchange for getting to talk about real estate all day. :-)
