Any good contractor will pad a schedule as there are some things they will not understand until they dig in a bit.

If you go with carpet, avoid the temptation to go cheap on the padding. 

If she padded the numbers, it's not by much. 

I don't use tape anymore either, but here I actually successfully used that pad thingy with the two rollers that keep the pad from touching the other side.

It depends upon how old the carpet and padding is to replace it or not.
