On larger sites I've even turned the soil to get some good sand below 10' and stack it in piles...then backfill it with top soil and extra clay (of course in areas not being utilized for traffic.

Another house we part owned flooded significantly and premiums were like $3000/year after sandy, if we kept it then it would have drained us.
