@Joseph Georgi Student loans can not be discharged in a bankruptcy i.e. if can't make payments, they will come after your other assets.

If the seller files BK, you can still work the short sale but you can't buy/sell it until it's been discharged.

The debt is 'forever' discharged.

If a filer completes the whole chapter 13 then it becomes discharged.

Being that you seem to be knowledgeable on the subject and I apologize if this is not the right question in response to your post, but do you have any idea if institutions will do a settlement, say if I call them  will they allow me to pay off the principal in a lump sum payment and dismiss the interest that has build up in order to discharge the loan?

The discharge hose often needs an eyelet hanger screwed in so the hose will not pop out of the drain and water goes everywhere.

I had a few cases like this.I don't know enough of Eric's situation to say why there was a concern about the lien not being discharged at sheriff sale.
