Sounds like it is a textured plaster ceiling and not drywall with standard acoustic (popcorn) so it will not scrape off.

Opening wallks means demo, insulation, drywall, mudding, texture, painting,... tasks which adds a lot to the overall project cost.Flooring, painting, cabinets, light fixtures are all pretty straight forward

Plus there are extra charges for sewer jets, machines, etc. my question is— how the heck did beer bottles, soda cans, and what looks like a piece of siding get into your sewer lines?!
