Just Moved in.....Sewer Backup. Anything I can do?

Hi,

I am looking for some advice/input here as I am at a loss. I purchased a home recently and roughly two weeks after moving in my basement sewer drain had overflowed into my basement. We had a plumber come out and he snaked the line to clear it. He found that the cast iron under the basement has some corrosion and would probably need to be replaced as another blockage would probably happen. A little context this home is older and the seller was an investor who did not live in the property.

During the inspection walkthrough we did find the sewer drain to be backed up and put that on the remedy list for the seller to have a licensed plumber snake the line. The seller agreed to this and after we moved in it looked fine. After the backup happened shortly after moving in my realtor requested proof from the seller that he did in fact have someone fix the sewer drain. The receipt he sent showed he just had someone jet the main line (no snaking). Also, I found out the person he had do it was not an indoor licensed plumber (did not know there was such a thing). I have had two plumbers state the same thing that the line needs replaced and the cost is A LOT. I also found out the seller had jetted the main line earlier before selling us the home. On the RPD he stated that he had no knowledge that the there was anything wrong with the sewer line. I find this hard to believe but I know it is hard to prove these type of things.

Any advice or guidance is much appreciated. I know there is more I could have done like getting the line snaked in inspection but this is my first real estate purchase.

Thanks!
