The smoke smell is extremely strong in our apartment and we are starting to get complaints from the next door unit.

Works well for us to get them to move on down the road, but not sure you want the back of your building to smell like a skunk.  

Getting no offers may mean that there is something wrong with the property, which could be something easily fixed that people don't like (smell, paint color, etc.) or could be a problem with functionality (master bed on top level and all other bedrooms 2 floors below in the basement).

So when a female smells a male's urine she takes her kits and moves on.  

Outside is a different story, as tree roots or shifts in the earth can crack a sewer line.If the smell is coming from the water lines, first thing to do is have the water tested for chlorine level.

Nothing freshens up a place cheaper than a fresh coat of paint on the walls, and IMO nothing turns off a potential buyer quicker than bad smells.

I'll just have to battle through the beginning stages, and rely on the income from my current employment to get me rolling.

I won't comment where the smell is coming from.
