I grew up in a real estate household (Dad was a broker for 30 years) and I even worked in the business as a teenager.

Have you thought about hiring a teenager to sort everything and scan so you have an electronic file and put in your “cost basis” file.?

I have a large family; I'm was feeding three relatives, oldest son, five teenagers (mine,) one 12 year old and my husband.

I'm guessing they had about eight people working the place, and of course they were teenagers.

The long and short of the problem is it became a party house for teenagers.

Do you have a teenage niece or nephew you could pay to hang around and keep the kids occupied? 

One thing that didn't make sense then ( I was a teenager at best) was using one houses equity to buy another house...but that's not the end of it.

I also have a teenager that I occasionally employ as cheap labor.

Unfortunately, I was just a teenager during the 80s and I only caught the tail end of that buying opportunity when I started buying in the early 90s.I highly recommend @Dave Van Horn's podcast here on BP and his website!
