I actually just applied for a "tourist home accessory use permit" via the website. 

The only downfall is that I don’t live in a big tourist area.

Living in San Antonio we have a large amount of tourist come into town every year, so I feel I live in an ideal market.

I know there is a tourist tax on "short-term" rentals under 6 months but anything long-term I can't seem to find an answer. 

Some years ago, I saw a documentary, and there's charter boats in Chile, that take tourists to Antarctica, which I think would rock...get to do 2 continents in one trip!

You also will have to pay the local tourists tax every month through the new portal.

We don't live in a "tourist" area but all of Utah is traveled by visitors. 

Also, whether or not you're talking about a tourist area can affect this.

Areas around old worn out industrial, agricultural and/or at one time popular tourist and vacation destination hubs and residential communities that have seen their day and are starting to turn to rubble are prime targets for abandonment.I recall one area in particular where I used to spend many many vacations.
