I am fairly new to real estate investing, and I wanted to get people's opinion on direct mail marketing and competition. I recently did a mail campaign, and only got about .5% response rate. I...

Here are a list of people who have helped me in different ways -- some I've learned from their words, some I've learned from their actions, some have inspired me to learn on my own and take bigger action, some have taught me tough lessons or what not to do, some have supported me when others haven't, some have directly contributed to my past successes and ALL will have directly or indirectly contributed to any future success I might have.

Make sure you have enough budget to send at least 6 mailers in order to be successful in direct mail marketing. 

as my venture in direct mail has been,  I don't think I would have gotten to the point of feeling perfectly comfortable with taking the initiative of changing direction if I hadn't made as big of an effort with it as I did.

Yet the two issues are if they delivered it, it was over a month late which is useless in direct mail.

I don't disagree with you, I'm inexperienced in direct mail and marketing.

Much like the referral of the real estate agent, anytime you can be introduced either directly or indirectly to someone by someone they know you will get a lot further.
