I had a contractor at a SFH to do some work on redirecting the gutters away from the house. 

I am considering pulling the money from my 401k that I currently have saved, invest it elsewhere for the next year or so, and then re-direct the percentage of my income that I was putting into retirement towards saving for a down payment for a rental property.In the future, I am interested in possibly flipping houses, but I'd like to wait until I have a few of cash flowing rental properties first.Has anyone else on here taken out their 401k savings to invest primarily in real estate?

all good ideas. digging around the house and installing drain tiles would also be a good idea. run the drain tiles to a drain system a good distance from the house so the water travels thru the drain tiles and into the catch basin and away from the house. the key here is to get the water away from the house. you cannot stop water, but you can redirect it. these ideas are expensive, yes, and should be factored into the overall costs associated with the house. if the numbers don't crunch right, run the other way

The sellers may want to redirect to a different escrow company, but at that point, you have their attention and they're obviously wanting to open escrow! 

Complicating the tax situation in such a scenario is that one of the homes was bought through a redirected IRA account.
