I personally don't think it's wise to make your first real estate investment purchase a home that you use as a STR part of the time, and one that you use as a vacation home part of the time.This is a common approach that people take, but I just think that when you take this approach as a new investor, emotion will cloud your judgment.Buying and operating a high performing short term rental is no joke. 

It is a balance, as sometimes they need to be pushed as emotions cloud their judgement on making good decisions to reach their goals.
