They are grande and ornate, but are typically uninsulated ("glowing candles on a winter's night") and can be expensive to upkeep (depending on any historical restrictions or requirements on the building).  

Maybe the wax would fill the scratch as well.

I went in after they moved out in the middle of the night with out notice to find black smoke ring all over the wall and melted wax running down the walls in several places even inside the tub.

On my next build, I'm thinking of putting in the hard flooring and then installing the trim but putting down wax paper on the floor under it.  

You might also get away with this smell treatment and a good waxing of the floor.

That is a different ball of wax.

Same would apply to flooring: if I found that the flooring beside a commode had a higher moisture content compared to the same flooring at the doorway, that might cause me to conclude a wax ring has failed or a supply line has failed behind a commode.For mold to be present, we first need cellulose (wood, MDF, paper, etc).

All the tornados that have ever happened in Dallas don't hold a candle to the damage caused by Ike.
