The patrons want to hear live music, and the club owner wants to have live music, but the patron doesn't want to pay a cover charge and the owner doesn't want to pay the band so everyone thinks the band should work "for exposure".

It's so patronizing, and sounds kind of manipulative and arrogant.Whereas, words like "teaching" or "setting boundaries" can still keep a modicum of respect about them, at least.Not to say we won't ever think of someone as stupid or unteachable lol.
