If you want good contractors, get there early, as suggested, but not at any home improvement store, go to your local lumber yard. you will find that the contractors that value quality supplies ( even if it is just lumber) will shop there and have accounts there, even talk to the salespeople behind the desk, they know who is good.

Fire ratings, etc. may be an issue.Floors, joists, rafters, various load-bearing members, etc. will still be plywood, pine or some other lumber product.
