I have had similar issues with getting my wife on board with investing in real estate. 

Your plan is sound, but you want to make sure your whole family is on board and understands that you will be living next door to a tenant who may knock on the door at any hour.

You could tell her to give 30 days' notice and pay the penalty to break the lease (assuming it is not domestic violence as there are local laws around leases in that instance), but that he has to be on board as they both have to be out.
