It's quiet and frequented more by regular, repeat vacationers looking for a home away from home rather than tourists you would normally see in areas such as Daytona or Orlando. 

The tourist population has grown immensely in that area.

The most ambitious project of the current government is the Mayan Train, a railway system connecting the largest tourist attractions of the southeast of Mexico, almost 1,000 miles of lenght with 20 stations, with a projected cost of 20 Billion USD.

For those that want a better glimpse,  try extended vacations in 3rd world countries,  away from tourist hot spots.

It is a perennial tourist attraction and the charm of an older city never gets old.

The area was crawling with tourists and residents having a blast.

If it's located in a nice location where it's close to tourists destination or perfect for a vacay, then you can rent it out short term as long as you're available to manage it since short term rentals needs you from time to time to attend to your guests concerns etc.

The property need quite a bit of work to get it to that number, however it is in a good tourist area and can probably serve well as a short term rental. 

As I'm sure you are quite aware Gatlinburg is a big tourist area, but what many don't realize is that there are a lot of people that go to the area in the winter as well.

On the other hand, it's a great time to be a tourist!
