That will be less painful than carpet.If you go for carpet, just plan on replacing it every 3-5 years.Ceramic or porcelain tile everywhere you can.

paul, i think showers are more expensive to buy/install since you have more material to purchase - tiles, backerboard, laying tiles, underlayment, etc.also, cleaning the corners of a shower is harder than rinsing the tub after you wipe it down. but the tubs get chips and cracks in the porcelain.
