That is great basic advice no matter the real estate investment category or market area, but rings especially true STR's in my opinion.

I built out some warm storage units in the basement and installed Lutron caseta systems with Ring doorbells and Nest thermostats.

You could also throw in cold calling, text messages and ring-less voicemail into the mix.Hope this helps.

This will give you an opportunity to install them properly (wax rings/level/etc.) and reduce potential of future damage from leaking toilet.

An inexpensive camera by the door may be well worth the investment (like a RING where you can do a quick view every now and then).
