The hot wire that feeds the switch was connected to the wrong wire so that the switch is not only operating the light but the rest of the circuit as well.

If the unit is already renovated ours get snapped up so quickly that if the lease breaker is cooperative and keeps the place nice while I show it and then leaves it nice (like they got it), I can usually get a renovated unit turned over with no money lost to me or the tenant.

Plus, who wants to trip breakers every time they use a blow dryer or microwave.

If it's a market that doesn't implement mandatory city inspections and it's very common, as long as a licensed inspector said that things look good/safe it might not be a deal-breaker! 

@Courtney SpencerOpen the door of the electrical panel and there should be a main breaker at the top of the breakers.  

Former owner ran electrical but we had to re-wire, trench and place in conduit and replace breaker box.

But it was a big deal breaker for us when cash is not flowing with this low rent.
