The technology is available, but since these software companies make money by the unit.

Both are strong cash flow markets but in addition to good cash flow, they both have strong economic and demographic fundamentals such as growing populations, job growth and modern/diverse economies and industries.

It was really kept up with but still had original everything from the 70s.If i upgrade the kitchen and bath and "modernize" the floor plan would that increase the value of the home and is it worth doing these type of flips or should i stick to trying to look for a really distressed property?

Not only because of the safety, but because the list of available companies that insure knob & tube is tiny and because they are taking on the 1800's technology risk, they are likely going to charge you for it.The upgrade will likely cost a bit but your place will be more marketable and also, all in all, safer.  

It would be cool to see things like this succeed and grow into things like multi-use developments grow up around modern mass transit access points.

@Alberto Nikodimov what systems/technology do you use to help you manage that many STRs?

We have a team in place that is awesome we just need to get with the modern tools to make this a little easier.
