@Karen Margrave when I say prefab or modular I'm talking about 3D volumetric modules built off-site to a high level of finish and put in place by crane or some other method.

Worse yet (for my property) they’ve been smoking in the house as is apparent from the faint smell, and the ash tray I had to step over, and the battery taken out of one of the smoke alarms.

That in and of itself isn't a problem but it is battery powered and therein lies the rub.I would check and see what the battery percentage is when it goes offline.
