So we had them repaired gratis.So I spent my money on redoing the old small diameter lines under the basement floors & had the foresight to add a check valve to avoid future sewer backups.

It just takes a bit of foresight on the game plan and planning things out.Hope that helps.

I wished I had the foresight back  in 2010. 2011.  

BTW I commend you on your foresight in considering the investment value of the home where you choose live, which, for reasons that elude me, many owner-occupant buyers simply ignore. 

It's been working for us, but it has been a lot of blood, sweat and marital arguments, and I do wish I had had the foresight to be more diversified in class of tenant and in geography.
