I'm currently in Hawaii (born and raised on O'ahu, but was living in CA for almost 20 years after graduating from high school), and am married to an active duty Marine, so our journey takes us wherever the government decides to send us.  

Alternative uses that might help persuade the neighbor: dog rescue facility, or another animal rescue facility, storage, parking...In Marin County, California, when the rich neighbors complained about a housing development George Lucas (Star Wars producer) wanted to build, he built low-income housing instead.

I separated from the Marine Corps, just last year!

Hi Everyone (Semper fi), I'm a real estate investor in Orlando, FL who proudly served in the United States Marine Corp.  

I have some experience in farmland, since I help manage my wifes family farmland in Idaho. its hard to get started when your new, unless you have contacts. a little story, a local young ex marine came to us a few years ago and wanted to farm the ground and we also held some other leases, so being kindhearted (and from a military family) I gave him a shot, and I even provided him with all the equipment and seed and fertilizer to get him started. well that turned into a nightmare, he thought farming was a m-f job. so it didn't workout. so my suggestion, would be to look for some crp land that hasn't been farmed in years and break in the ground yourself and show what a hard worker you are. most land owners would rather see the land farmed then to sit in crp.

I'd probably keep them for now but use a heavy duty or marine polyurethane.

Preface of my situation:I am a 21 Y/O Marine who has invested in a previously foreclosed home in a great neighborhood 30 minutes outside of D.C. all of which is going well however; I am going to be stationed somewhere else in the future and will be looking for the Same live-in flip style situation only this time, I would like to find a fourplex, hopefully foreclosed also. 

Also, Marines are coming so that may help as far as renting your property when you PCS if you don't sell it.
