Both were chain smokers.

From the addendum, it appears that a reason must be given, but it can be "renovation of the unit", which we'll have to do anyway since they are very heavy smokers and normal people wouldn't want to live there.  

We don't rent to smokers.

If in all of their photos at home there are ash trays and cigarettes in their hands but they marked themselves as nonsmokers on the application - that is going to get extra scrutiny.
