Yes, just like removing cigarette smell.

My former tenant smoked cigarettes in the unit and the smell was unbearable.

We are still fairly new to this- we've had two turnovers- one was very easy (next tenants moved in the same day, we didn't even have a chance to shampoo carpets for them) and the second, well, due to smoking, cigarette burns in carpet, and cat pee, among other small damages and missing things, the total bill exceeds the security deposit and pet fee.

In the past, we had set up this particular alarm because we had smokers on the premise.

Cigarettes and poison ivy may both be legal however you can prevent them from be on your property. 

Carpet will not contain it- in fact it will make it 10x worse.Maybe if you have vinyl throughout- but just the thought of 3 animals in one of my units makes me shake my head.Never for me- I will limit my market, just like I don’t rent to smokers.
