The only qualification or gloss that I would add to this is that the ability to pierce the veil really does vary state by state.

You need to ensure you have a formal loan agreement in place, particularly if you are dealing with LLC, because you need to ensure there is not the appearance of the commingling of funds, which could pierce the corporate veil of protection the LLC affords you.
