Alex:You can't really see them too great in the pictures above, but I really wanted to try and save the cove ceilings on the first floor, I think it gives a lot of character (a long with the stained glass) to the first floor.

Should you choose to paint the brick, I think you may need to add a feature such as a mantle to compensate for the loss of texture/character.

To me the credit score depending upon how it's been built isn't the best judge of character with the use of money.
