I develop a relationship with my contractors by being fair and respectful and appreciative and they reciprocate.

This forum is outstanding (wish they had something like this in construction 14 yrs ago) I welcome any advice you may have and I promise to reciprocate any info that I discover. 

I will plan on getting my RE license in NY because CT is a reciprocal state, meaning I can apply for my CT license once I get my NY license.  

(After all, if they're at the point in their career that they are willing to lend their expertise, it takes deliberate effort on their part, and they don't have time to make an effort if you don't reciprocate.)In going to over a hundred meetings in the past year, I've made a lot of contacts with some very savvy and successful folks, and not once did I ask to be mentored.

To try and diffuse a potentially dangerous situation, I said "hello" - but he did not reciprocate my cordiality - instead he immediately became aggressive and demanded "Who are YOU?

I'm currently in the process of licensing in VA, WV, TN, & OH now, as they all reciprocate with my Kentucky license.I would need to look at how VA does it, but most states protect homeowners from these type of problems in one way or another.  

Just treat people fairly and they should reciprocate over time.

And I just recently passed the reciprocity exam for Illinois.
