As for work completed, when I had a friend get caught doing work without a permit, he didn't have to pull everything out, but had to pull out pieces to allow inspector to verify work.

I forget which episode of the podcast it was on but someone mentioned that they had ID badges made for their apartment complex and went around to local businesses to see what types of discounts or promotions they could offer their tenants when they showed their ID badge at checkout.
