The building had a decent amount of historical detail but it had been so chopped up over the years that it wasn't very uniform and would require a ton of work to restore that wasn't warranted for a rental.

However, if the move-in deposit is only to be used to cover damage that happened while you were moving, you might have to pay out of pocket for the extra fine.The security deposit can only be used when you vacate to restore the property to pre-move-in condition or to cover any unpaid rent or fines incurred while living on the property. 

We've done a number of restoration projects where they use corn cob media to blast old wooden beams clean.

About an hour later I get a phone call from my worker who was restoring my floor with a heavy duty sander, asking if I knew why his extension cord was on the next door neighbor's lawn...!!!!
