Hi Chicago I got advice from my financial advisor to get an investment property late last year. My wife and I looked at Chicago neighborhoods we liked, and Monday closed on our first multi family. I have been learning from BiggerPockets website and podcasts, but feel a bit in over my head. But we are taking action which we are excited about. Looking for active REI groups in Chicago. Also are there places to buy items at discount for rehabbing? Need kitchen and flooring for current building. Jake

@Jake Rittenhouse I see this is one of your first posts so welcome to BP.

Yes you can absolutely buy items at a discount. In my area habitat for humanity gets more items donated that they can use use. They have an outlet where they sell excess donated items cheaply. But shopping around takes time and time is money. Sometime is it easier and more cost efficient to simply buy from Lowes or Home Depot.
