The contractor provides photos of the completed work and receipts/more, and then payment is made electronically. 

He did pay me for the month and there is an electronic record of that so it would technically be a lie. 

I'm paranoid about that type stuff so I put electronic locks and door contacts on all exterior doors for that reason.

Does anybody have any experience with square cash, venmo or any other electronic method of collecting rent from tenant who may not have a checking account?

If you paid by credit card or electronically - no need for 1099s.If you do need 1099-MISC, then you will need the contractor's full name, address and Tax ID ("EIN").

(this is where electronic rent collection comes in handy - we can and will demand rent in full, especially once a tenant has been late a couple times - Ive got one now in fact) and prepare for a winter rehab.

I get mail all the time with the words ELECTRONIC SERVICE REQUESTED under the postage (not sure if this has to be prearranged with the Post Office).
