Let me ask in this case; in what scenario would you want to pay down your principal with a high interest rate??

Also, case in point they are usually properties that fell out of contract or have no current offers.

Just wondering if this seems to be the case in most areas or just around me.

I've met many of them over the the years and I haven't met any of them who regrets it and plenty of them who would recommended (with the caveat that you need to know what you're doing).As you suggested, there are specific risks that don't exist if you invest domestically and it can mean headaches if you don't know what you're doing (but that's the case in the US too).

I have heard of people giving cops discounts in MF complexes thinking it increases safety and that may be the case in some area but that isn't for me, but those areas also aren't for me. 

I am not stating this was the case in all markets, but people who think cash flow is guaranteed need to study their RE history.  

In other countries the mortgages could go up to close to 90% or above, that is not the case in Spain.
