Plus, the local REIA is a wealth of in-depth knowledge of local cities, markets, rental rates, etc.I always remind our REIA members that successful investing (including finding your dream vacation/rental home) always comes down to three main things:1) knowing what you want,2) having a great reason for wanting it,3) and then letting everyone know both of those!

You might take a stab at running a calculator that's a bit more in depth then one that just uses the 50% rule, it's good experience estimating the various expenses, and then later seeing what they actually are.

For placement in your kitchen (left to right), I would consider: Interior left wall - refrigerator, counter; Exterior back wall - counter with dishwasher below, sink with garbage disposal and window above, counter, range with range hood, counter, exterior door; Exterior left wall - electrical panel, shallow depth pantry cabinets and perhaps a shallow depth counter with another window above or a space for a small dining table here.
