Check with your CPA, prepay the taxes with a 1040est and THEN see what you have to work with.DO NOT get into the situation where you OWE and can't pay immediately, the interest charges will eat you alive.I don't know how this rumor ever got started, but it's not true.

Is there truth to it or just rumor? 

Permitting process for Yucca/JT/Pioneertown is relatively simple but we're also hearing rumors that this may get more strict/regulated in the future. 

It took me a long time to believe the rumor that owning a primary residence wasn't the investment people make it out to be, but now I'm a pretty strong believer.

It is really just a bad rumor that won't die.

@Joseph Scorese There are lots of people that I know that are buying up South side because apparently there are some rumors in the town that something big is coming down to South side that will change it astronomically.

Area and neighborhood are great but always rumors the area wells have had contamination in past years.

I've heard rumors some commercial companies may start offering it, but I don't think that's happening yet.
