If a house is selling for 20,000....on a fixed rate mortgage, the principal and interest payment will always be the same in twenty years, no matter if the house appreciates or depreciates.

Someone (Kiyosaki, maybe) said that real estate is a great way to store cash.But one (usually) makes that cash in other ways, principally through a successful business (or writing bestsellers like Kiyosaki).Twenty grand won't go far in REI, but there are plenty of ways to scale that amount up significantly, and they've been touched upon here and there on BP.Good luck.
