College areas I am looking at is Western Washington University, University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University and so forth. Military areas I am currently looking is Everett and the surrounding areas. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank You,

@Adrian Mata Wouldn't it be better to charge a maintenance fee every month and have better appliances that can add value to the unit? These were just questions that came to my mind.

Good Afternoon BP from Okinawa, Japan,

I was wondering if there is any BP Member's out here that is willing to share some knowledge about REI. I have been doing a lot of researching and I was hoping to just sit down over coffee and ask questions about your experiences.

Thank you for your time and Happy Holidays.

Wow! Thank you everyone for all the advice! I believe my girlfriend right now is not feeling so thrilled with the money she spent on the first class she took. That being said I'm excited to see all the routes my girlfriend and I can take.

We have been looking at a Duplex for a while and with a 4-plex that @Jay Hinrichs was suggesting. Do you honestly believe that we should start with a 4-plex? One thing that I forgot to mention is that I DO want to house hack. I am only cautious with the big price that comes with so many units that may need to be remodeled and/ fixed. I am currently stuck on Bremerton, Everett,  Fort lewis area, and Whidbey island . I am currently stationed overseas and do not have a way to look at these houses now. How would you do it if you were in my shoes? Overseas and not that much capital.

@James Miller Did you get out of the military and start investing or did you do this while you were in the military. Also did you buy in Oak Harbor because of the military base that is out there? I don't know if you are willing to share, but why did you not enjoy working with USAA? They boast that they are military friendly. if you do not want to share in public I would love to talk to you about your experience with them.

@Tom Krol I appreciate your ideas and suggestions. I am all about finding a house and learning that way. My girlfriend however stands on the other side of the spectrum. She enjoys the safe environment and wants to have a sit down where someone will hold our hands through this process. The only reason she doesn't like the mentor I have is because we are overseas and its not instant answers when she has questions. What do you mean by turnkey? I don't really understand what you mean by vetting and turnkey. Would you be able to elaborate?

Thank you everyone for your time and I can't wait to hear from everyone soon. Thank you again!

Hello Everyone,

I have been having a hard debate with my girlfriend. She just went to a class that gave her the RE Basics. We do not have a house at this point in time, but we want to purchase a house soon. We have little cash now and are currently working on ways to finance our first house. We have a mentor that has been doing this for a while and has volunteered to help us, but with my girlfriend she says that she wants someone that will walk us through our first transaction. What do you guys think? Would you take the class or would you spend that money on the first house and learn from our mistakes. Thank you for your help and I hope to hear from you soon.

Did your VA loan accept the GI Bill's BAH as income? Also thank you for your quick response.

Hello,

I am currently in the military and I will be getting out of the military within the next year. 364 days to be exact and I want to purchase a house in Washington State using my VA loan and then pay the VA loan off with the Basic Housing Allowance I will be receiving with my GI bill. Has anyone done that before? I also want to have roommates to pay off the house as well. Is that do able?

Thank You,

David Wong

Thank you Everyone! I am hoping to start with housing in Virginia and get started out there. Just because my girlfriend is getting stationed out there and I will be out of the service and following her around. In the end I hope to be getting into the Pacific Northwest market with houses around military bases.

Hello Everyone,

My name is David Wong and I have been following bigger pockets for a while now. I'm in the military serving over in Okinawa, Japan and I will be getting out of the military within the year. Currently I am looking at houses with my girlfriend on where to buy our first house/multiunit house. We are both very new to this and my background in the military is medical, but previous to that I use to work on a fishing boat and a little bit under a general contractor. I hope i can get into contact with some of the bigger pocket investors and I hope to learn more from all of you! Thank you for your time and I can't wait to learn!

Thank you again.
