Hello John, it's my understanding that you don't need a contractors license to do snow removal. The license is required for any contractor that is doing improvements but not for maintenance.

The most important thing is that the contractor is properly insured. Check that they have a snow specific policy and not just general liability. That being said I really don't know any of this to be fact.

Also, I would love to hear some prices you get quoted in your area.

Welcome to the site Dan. There are many helpful people here that will guide you along. Be sure to set up some keyword alerts so you are notified when a topic you are interested in is being discussed.

Also, there are many REI groups that meet throughout NJ. Be sure to attend a few of them. See you around the site!

@Mark Langdon

 Survey$0.00 (I made the sellers do this. They paid $ 2500)

Was this something that's negotiated with the seller? This is the first I am hearing of this. Is it common? Thanks

Thanks everyone for the responses. I guess I needed to be assured that the newbie status can be carried for a while.

@Steve Babiak - Did I do that? Trying to use the phone version of the site.

@Siye Baker - I am looking at a property that fits in #2. A couple people (including the wife) think I need my head examined.

As I was going through my alerts today I began wondering, at what point are you no longer a newbie? I tried to search this and nothing came up. Thanks in advance.
Hello James, it's not necessary to form an LLC when starting out. This is often debated on the site. The lenders will most likely want you to back the purchases with a personal guarantee so you will be attached regardless. There are many posts on the site regarding this. As far as starting out with limited funds, look in to creative funding. Things like subject to or seller financing for example. Best of luck in your journeys!

I will be attending this one. If anyone is in the Morris county area and wants to catch a ride I will be driving in. I can fit three people, just let me know.

I have not worked with him but there are a few here on the site who have. Darren is a moderator for BP and arranges the NY and North Jersey meet ups. You can hear him on one of the podcasts with Josh and Brandon as well. I chatted with him once and he was very knowledgeable and courteous.

Anthony Greene , do you have any specific areas in mind? I know the Highlands act has put the brakes on some of the more "rural" areas here.
