@Miller McSwain thank you. That is exactly the thing. I can learn anything from a book but don’t feel like the transition would be as smooth for me to learn ground work as an agent. I work flexible FT hours and have a family also that are very supportive. Should I be utilizing the tools here on BP to analyze deals and get all of that down and mastered first? That seems like it would make the most sense for active engagement. I’m at a place in my life right now where I just want to jump in head first, but want to make sure that I’m swimming up the right stream with the right fish. I want to learn the game, familiarize myself with my locals and the market and hope to gain some capital along the way.

@Cam Vankerkhovev Thanks I read your profile introduction and you seem like just the dose of medicine I may need to get motivation enough to get to a local meeting. It’s one thing to know someone and have someone that I am coming to meet instead of looking completely lost. Do you participate in any of the local meetings?

@Will Long Thank you, and I agree with you. I’m just not too confident with a meet up and I have no experience or know how. I always feel as if I wouldn’t be welcomed if I want actively doing something like wholesaling in the mean time.

Hello BP is been a long time since I was last on the site, but I was working on my NYS RE course. I have just finished my final exam and have scheduled my state exam, and am confused about how I should get started into investing. I originally wanted my license because I thought that it was a good way for me to learn the laws and foundation of how real estate works, until I found out that I don't necessarily need a license to invest. I work full time, have a fair credit score and no reserves saved for my initial investments but I am eager to learn and willing to put in the time to help a mentor. I would ideally like to househack a multifamily in the Rochester NY area to earn some residual income and maybe BRRR my way into following properties. I was wondering if you all thought it would be a better idea for me to work part time as an agent to earn capital or whether I should network at my local RE association and see if I could find some good deals to whole sale to other local investors to gain capital. I currently rent and will continue for the next year ( new lease), but I am trying to build a plan for my lease end. Please be honest and tell me what you guys think would help in my situation. Local investors strongly encouraged to respond.

@Charlie Cameron thanks for responding to me for starters! And, I think that I am definitely a people person and would enjoy the interaction part time while I continue to pursue my full time employment to gain more capital. I have no experience, but I am EAGER to learn. Not quite sure where to start.

Hello, I'm not sure if any of you guys have read my previous forums but I am new to the REI game and need help getting started. I have little to no capital and am considering getting my RE Agent license to get some experience and exposure with my market in Rochester NY and Earn some capital towards my first investment property. I recently found out that the agent doesn't hold their own license, but that their sponsoring brokerage does; does anybody know how things work if you don't end up liking the brokerage you have and want to change? How does the license transfer? Is it a simple process? Just asking because you never really know what kind of relationship you will have with your sponsor until you start one and I'm not sure how they will feel working with me being as though I am an aspiring investor. Should I even bark up the license tree or just network at my local REIA and find someone to take me under their wing with wholesaling or something to help generate some capital and experience?
