Do lots of research on who does the best work in the area you're looking at investing in. Look for the REI Facebook group and see who the big names are and see who is active within the group. These people can point you to good worthwhile professionals who can be your core 4.

I bought my first property while in Japan with only my core people to guide me. If you do good research and they check out put your trust in them and you’ll be in the business.

Good luck out there and reach out if you need some insight.

I’ll be leaving mid-May so horrible timing!

There aren't any meetups I'm aware of but admittedly I haven't done any hardcore searching. One of my guys I work with is also into REI so we just bounce ideas and thoughts off each other.

Still feel free to reach out at any point and sorry we can’t meet!

@Nicholas Earls no I don’t invest in Indianapolis. Just got hit with the OOS tag notification.

Feel free to ask anything, I’m here to assist.

I am currently overseas and purchased my first property while out of country.

In reality it all depends on your intended level of involvement. I began the whole process from scratch while 7000 miles away and intended to be fairly hands off.

Just find a team you can trust and go from there. I started by finding a property manager. That led to my realtor which led to my loan broker. Rockstars really do know rockstars. Of course I checked and vetted them all and ensured they are all familiar with investors or invest themselves.

After pitches it really is up to you if you want to sit back and “collect checks” or if you want to message your PM and press them to do specific things you want.

I will say do not rush to buy before you leave. Take time to get your team together and when the deal comes be ready. I’m sure you’ll have a printer/scanner wherever you are and a notary. That’s all you need to get it done.

Let me know if I can help further!

I purchased my first property while overseas. As said before it really is all about the team you have. My most important member was my realtor. He introduced me to my loan agent and others. Rockstars really do know rockstars.

It’s all about effective communications and having that trust. Having a printer/scanner handy and a notary nearby helps a lot. I was able to close in about 35 days because I trusted my team and did what I was told by my lender.

Best move I’ve made is to find the rockstars and trust them. Always leave a great review for them as well.

Get with a realtor who knows the area you want to buy in. If you need a good realtor for Grand Rapids let me know and I’ll set you up with my guy!
