Hi everyone, went to my first Houston REIA last night and signed up to be a member. They were also giving away free tickets to new members for the Big Live event, but after reading the above comments, it seems like the 3 day event would be a waste of time even though it is free. I really enjoy BP's platform for learning and education. I am fairly new to REI, started my marketing campaigns etc., educated myself through BP and a lot of REI books, but ready to find my first deal. Anyone been to the Big Live event and can enlighten me as to whether it is worth it or not, and their experience with Houston REIA?

Welcome!! As a new investor myself, you are definitely in the right place for knowledge. Check out the podcasts too!
I asked my current insurance provider - State Farm- to provide me a quote if I turned my primary residence into a rental, and they responded today saying they do not cover rentals anymore and this was a recent transition.

Great advice on lining up multiple estimates. As a new investor, good to know I need to account for no-shows and contractors getting scared away by still in option period.

@Ethan G. In a previous discussion posting, I asked about Partnerships and whose name should go on the title? It was recommended that I speak with an attorney.  Also, recommended - all our names would go on the deed, and I would get the mortgage in my name. The partners are providing down payment, I manage, and then after refinancing we would split everything 50/50. I'll send you a colleague request as well.

Ham Merritt thanks for advice. Currently looking in state, but will keep that in mind for the future.

Can anyone recommend a real estate attorney that they have worked with, in the Houston area?
