I echo Al Williamson and his first suggestion:

1. Find a problem the create the solution

however, be sure that you find a problem that is a "paying" demand...if what you end up finding out is something that folks don't want to pay for then that's still great value add, but yielding zero dollars.

You're on the right track though.

Samantha M. if you're asking about Backlinks for the purpose of merely having a backlink to your site, then there are a myriad of clean ways to get quality backlinks, one of which Ned Carey highlighted...being active on blogs and leaving your mark through comments (offering good dialogue, insightful comments, and providing value) is a great way to get a link and strike up a relationship with the blog owner.

Why are you asking about backlinking? Is it for ranking purposes? or for just getting your website and brand out there?

I would encourage you to view social media as just another means of communicating...the ones who do really well balance their approach with both real life off line connecting, networking, and sharing with the on line approach of social networking.

When you're out and about, invite folks to connect with you THEN actually be interesting enough to be worth connecting to...after looking at your current FB page, you have very few photos and everyone knows photos are a HUGE factor in FB being an amazing reason people are interested in other people :)

Balance your on-line with your off-line networking...and if you're mostly an on-line networker, then stay consistent, join conversations, and stay top of mind.

The basics are really the same but there are a few variations on how to start.

Some say, find buyers first, others say the buyers will be there when you get a deal.

I would say work hard to find the best "deal" and the buyers will find you. Knowing what a "deal" is the most important part of wholesaling because if you think something is a deal, and its not, thats not good. Focus on finding those deals and the rest will follow.

Liza Rhima I'm a newbie and in late Jan 2013 I stumbled across Sean Terry's youtube channel and was encouraged by the case study videos...obviously its cool to see them make the checks but it doesn't go through a lot of the process in which they made it.

So naturally, I went to his podcast since some of the case studies mentioned it on their youtube channel. And just as Sean said, he's got 100 episodes that will motivate you and give you very detailed information on how to wholesale properties.

I am NOT a member of Sean's F2F program, but I have learned a lot from is FREE podcast and it's got me learned enough to marry that info with what I learn from BP to move forward and take some massive action.

The one critique I do have of Sean's teaching is that he doesn't really emphasize enough that you WILL need start up capital in order to make a REAL push when pursuing wholesaling.

It costs $$$ to market for motivated sellers. Whether its yellow letter or postcard mailings, bandit signs, etc...there IS cost involved. He mentions it but I don't feel like he prepares the listener up-front to expect and incur those costs.

Sean is an amazing motivator and an extremely knowledgeable wholesaler. When I close my first deal, he's going to get a nice thank you email and testimonial from me because I've learned a lot from his podcasts alone :)

As a newbie, after a lot of education online, podcasts, BP forums, etc...I wonder why people neglect to share that "Marketing" will always cost, when considering wholesaling.

Either for gas and "driving for dollars" or obtaining an Absentee Owner list from ListSource.com or calling on the FSBO sites, there's always an "Operating" cost or "Marketing" cost involved when getting into Wholesaling.

In a recent BP podcast, that was a major point..."Marketing" is the key to successful Wholesalers...and yet very few people mention that cost.

Going straight from $0 to a deal is possible, but like J Scott said its very very difficult, but certainly possible.
