We just accepted a settlement for reduction of $42k on a $500k property. Well worth it

Hi Ronald Rohde, I know this post was from 4 years ago, but curious to know if you used a tax protest company and who it was? Thank you!

Wow, I have to think. I'd say O Connor does a ton, if it was $500k i'd say it really doesn't matter. Just look for the lowest percent charged, and get someone with a later hearing date. Those have better comps of prior reductions.

I have used both O'Connor and Bettencourt.  Their pricing models slightly different.  Bettencourt was able to get some results, O'Connor none (but this is my own personal experience only).

Hi Ethan, thanks for letting me know about Bettencourt. I will check them out.

Quote from @Bobbi Casalino:

I'm in the process of insuring my family for IBC. To me, it looks like the best policies are:

MassMutual : WL Legacy 10 (12, 15, 20 also) Pay or HECV

NY Life: Custom WL

Northwest Mutual: Participating WL

Guardian Life: WL Ins

I'd like to know if you have any of these and what pros/cons you've found. I appreciate any input you may have!

I own Guardian and Mass Mutual.  Prefer them over Northwestern Mutual and NY Life.  Guardian has the highest early cash value policy which is what I prefer for investors.

Quote from @Joe Garretson:

Doesn't this concept take YEARS if not decades though to truly provide any benefit? I've always been in the camp that whole/universal life policies are fantastic - for the selling agent. The purchaser gets shafted with insane fees and overcooked promises. Maybe I'm wrong?

Is this truly better than just budgeting, spending wisely and paying yourself first and saving?

Yes, it could take years.  However, I recommend high early cash value policies where you have about 95% of your premium available as cash value the next day to borrow.  IULs generally pay more commissions to agents faster than whole life policies.

@Jobin V.,  I can put a list together of all the wholesalers that email me properties and share that with you.  There are plenty here in Houston.  Message me.

Hi Jobin, I know it's a pretty old post of yours but Would you please share few wholesalers?

Sounds good uote from @Nicholas Davaul:

Anyone up for meeting in two weeks?   Wednesday, Nov. 2nd?

Next week is the third Wednesday of the month, and is usually the day that the BP Houston REI Meetup has there meeting.

Being it looks like 4 people, we can/could meet at Panera bread by Katy Mills Mall, and we need to find another place.. We can do that at the next meeting...  Any thoughts on another day?

Yes, I would be happy to participate in a Katy based one.  We used to meet at the Panera near the mall on Kingsland, there was plenty of room.  Other places could work as well.  I live closer to the Fulshear side, so southwest of Cinco Ranch.

@Ethan G., Apologies for bringing up a 2 year old thread comment, but is the Katy Meetup still happening on the 2nd Tuesday night of every month?

No, we stopped doing it during Covid and some members moved it into Houston. I don't have the details anymore.
