Post: Can we talk about refinishing walls? Smooth vs textured...

We bought our first home this past summer and didn't realize how bad of condition the walls are. We knew we had a few issues, but now realize almost every wall in the home needs work to look decent.

We had planned to skimcoat the imperfections, but now realizing how much is needed it seems that texturing the walls would be a much faster, less frustrating, and maybe even cheaper option.

Has anyone textured walls before? What are the pros and cons? Any tips, suggestions or websites for me?

Thanks,

Kat

I've seen people tagged using the @ symbol and have tried to do it myself, but they aren't showing as links. Any idea what in doing wrong? Thanks, Kat

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome! I can't wait to dig in and get to know everyone better! @George Helms May I ask exactly what you mean by developing a model? Do mean choosing buy & hold vs flipping vs wholesale, etc? @Steve Lehman & @Rodney Kuhl Thank you for suggesting meetup.com. I had seen mentions of groups and planned to ask where to find them. @Shawn Holsapple Thank you for all of the links and suggestions! I read The Four Hour Work Week several years ago and probably should again. And the Bigger Pockets podcasts are great! I've been listening for a couple months now.

Hello everyone!

My name is Kat and I'm from Indianapolis. I have loved real estate since I was a child, but I have never had the courage to make that first step. Last year, my husband and I bought our first home with the plan to rent it out when we are ready to move on.

Right after we bought our home, my brother learned through the family grapevine that we were wanting to to invest in real estate, probably going the buy and hold route. He has offered the possibility of covering out-of-pocket cash if we carry the mortgage and handle the majority of the work. I told him we needed time, we were still adjusting to being first time homeowners. We've spoken several times since, but I'm afraid I've still been suffering from analysis paralysis. I've just taken the first step by introducing myself here, now I just need to email my realtor after I finish my introduction.

I found Bigger Pockets about a week after we closed on our home. This place is full of wonderful information and I am learning more every day! I look forward to getting to know everyone, and someday have the ability to help others!

Thank you!
